Tantôt Privacy Policy
Tantôt ("we", "us") is a location-sharing and meet-up app for friends and families, operated from Canada by Enki.A. This policy explains what the app collects, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Tantôt app and to tantotapp.com.
1. The short version
- Your live location is shared only with the people you choose, for the time you choose (for example 15 minutes, 1 hour, or until you arrive).
- We do not sell your data and we do not show advertising.
- You can delete your account inside the app.
- Younger users need a parent: everyone under 16 stays out of friends, groups and chat until a parent approves.
2. What we collect

We do not collect payment card details in the app, and we do not collect health information. The app sends basic technical information (app version, device model) with its requests so the service works.
3. Location in detail
- Your own position is used on your device for the map and navigation.
- Friends see your live position only when you start sharing with them. Sharing ends when the time you chose runs out or when you arrive.
- Family members you add to your family circle may see you as a standing pin; you can change this in Settings, except for a child account, which is controlled by the parent.
- You can stop sharing at any time with one tap.
- Places you have been are kept on our server. To build your explored-areas map and achievements, the app uploads coarse map cells of about 150 metres where you have been, and the names of streets you have driven. When you reach a new city or country, an entry with its date is added to your Year Chapter. The Year Chapter can be switched off in the app. This history is private to your account and is erased when you delete your account.
- We never sell location data or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
4. How we use your information
To run the app (sign-in, maps, sharing, chat, meet-ups, calls, notifications), to keep it safe (abuse reports, blocking, SOS, parental controls), to fix problems and improve it, and to meet legal obligations. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.
5. AI-written stories
- City stories. When you reach a new city, Tantôt can tell you a short story about it. The app sends the name of the city and the language to our server, which may ask an AI service (Anthropic's Claude) to retell public information about that place. Your coordinates and account are not sent. The phone may also fetch the public Wikipedia summary of that city by name.
- Year Chapter. If the Year Chapter is on, our server may ask Anthropic's Claude to write your year as a story. For that it sends your display name and a list of facts from your account: places you visited, stories you heard, and notes you wrote. You can switch the Chapter off in the app.
Stories are saved on your device and on our server so they can be replayed.
6. Who we share data with
We share data only with the following, and only as needed to run Tantôt:
- The people you choose: friends and family see what you chose to share (your location, messages, profile). A parent can see their child's chats, calls and family-circle position, and the child is told.
- Microsoft Azure hosts our servers, database and private file storage for chat media.
- Twilio (SMS) and Meta WhatsApp deliver one-time sign-in codes to your phone number.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service deliver push notifications.
- HERE Technologies provides maps, search and route calculation. Route and search requests contain the places you ask about.
- Open-Meteo receives your approximate coordinates to show the weather.
- LiveKit carries the audio of calls and push-to-talk.
- Anthropic writes the AI stories described in section 5.
- Wikipedia (city summaries by name), Tenor (GIF search) and OpenStreetMap Nominatim (address search for businesses) receive the text you search for.
- Your phone's own location service (Google on Android, Apple on iOS) turns coordinates into place names on your device.
- Authorities where the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
We do not sell personal information.
7. Children and families
You must be at least 11 to use Tantôt. Everyone under 16 is treated as a minor: they cannot add friends, join groups or chat until a parent or guardian (18 or older) approves. A child can sign up and ask a parent to approve, or a parent can create a child account. The parent controls the child's family-circle sharing and can read the child's chats (messages, photos, videos and voice notes, including messages the child deleted for themselves, kept up to 180 days) and see their calls. The child is told this once when they first use chat. People who chat with a child account should know that a parent may be reading. A child account cannot delete itself; the child must ask the parent. If you believe a child is using Tantôt without a parent's knowledge, write to us and we will act on it.
8. How long we keep it
- Live location is used to show your current position. It is not kept as a trail, but the explored-areas history in section 3 is kept until you delete your account.
- Messages are deleted automatically after 180 days at the latest. A message in a direct chat is removed for good once both people have deleted it.
- Call records: 30 days. SOS alerts: 48 hours.
- Reports about a conversation, and the media in them, may be kept for up to 90 days so they can be reviewed.
- Deleted accounts: see section 9.
9. Deleting your account
In the app, go to Profile or Settings → Delete account. This cannot be undone. For an adult account, your profile, friends, groups, photos, places and explored-areas history, Year Chapter, preferences and progress are deleted immediately. Messages you sent stay in the other person's chat but are no longer linked to you after 30 days, and are deleted with the 180-day limit above. For an account of someone under 16, we keep the minimum record needed to show the parent's approval (phone number, date of birth, the parent, and consent records). Reports kept for review are deleted within 90 days.
If you cannot open the app, write to us from the account's email or tell us the phone number, and ask us to delete it.
10. Your choices and rights
- Stop sharing, change who can see you, block people, switch off the Year Chapter or place stories, in the app.
- Turn off location, contacts, notifications, camera and microphone in your phone's settings at any time.
- Ask us to access, correct or export your data, or object to a use, by writing to us. Depending on where you live (for example Canada's PIPEDA, Québec's Law 25, the EU/UK GDPR, or California's CCPA) you may have further rights, and you may complain to your local privacy authority.
11. Security
Data travels over encrypted connections (TLS) and is stored on access-controlled servers. Chat media is kept in private storage and shown only to people in the conversation. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and fix problems quickly.
12. International transfers
Our servers and our providers may be located outside your country, including in Canada and the United States. We use providers that protect data under their own agreements and legal safeguards.
13. Cookies on this website
The app does not use cookies. This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
14. Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
